Interstate Equine Hospital externship opportunities are open to students and graduates of a college of veterinary medicine with a professional interest in equine medicine. Interstate offers an intimate setting where externs can easily observe cases with different doctors during outpatient appointments and on ambulatory calls. Externs will develop skills in patient assessment, treatments, and monitoring, with inpatient case management. Externs will also experience after‐hours emergency management with cases that include non‐surgical colic, injuries, internal medicine cases, and acute soundness issues. During the Spring season we offer a variety of reproductive services including artificial insemination and neonatal care. The Interstate Equine Experience will include performance horse medicine with a heavy emphasis on lameness evaluation ranging from straightforward diagnosis to complex, multi‐limb issues. In addition to lameness evaluation, experience high‐quality medicine through exposure to premier horse management at exceptional ranches.

Prerequisites for Externships:

• Primary professional interest in equine veterinary medicine
• Preferences given to third and fourth year veterinary student or graduate veterinarian
• Transportation to and from Interstate Equine Hospital
